U.S. Congressman Thomas Massie believes that the time to act for the GOP in Congress to take action is now that Republicans have control of the White House, House and Senate.

Massie looks at the partisan control as “once in a lifetime opportunity” for Republicans to push a conservative agenda without the Democratic lawmakers being able to block, and believes that the first hundred days are going to be make or break beginning of the session with tax reform.

“I know Kevin Brady, the chairman of Ways and Means, he’s got a great tax plan that’s going to simplify taxes,” Massie said. “Ninety five percent of Americans will be able to file their taxes on a postcard, and it’s stuff like that we need to be bold about. The real fight is going to be against the lobbyists who’ve got all of these entrenched special interests. So, even though the Republicans have the House, the Senate, and the White House, the lobbyists still control the lobbying and a lot of the money.”

Massie has a message for Republicans in Congress who still aren’t overly supportive of President-elect Donald Trump.

“Every Republican in Washington, D.C. needs to acknowledge that he’s got a recipe that they didn’t come up with,” Massie said. “I think he does have somewhat of a mandate. Now, the mandate for me, that never changes is that we have to balance this budget.”

One legislator Massie does not support is House Speaker Paul Ryan who does not have Massie’s support when the House reconvenes for a vote on January 3.

“Paul Ryan does not have my vote on January 3rd,” Massie said. “I gave Paul Ryan the benefit of the doubt for a year, I said if he could return us to regular order, if we can pass 12 appropriations bills, I’ll give him an A+ and vote for him again. Unfortunately, we didn’t pass a single appropriations bill, didn’t put one on Obama’s desk.”
