FRANKFORT, Ky. – Sarah Durand, the former president of the Louisville Tea Party, has resigned as chief of staff for Kentucky First Lady Glenna Bevin.

Durand, who has been part of the Matt Bevin team since his 2014 campaign for the U.S. Senate, resigned just before the Labor Day weekend. Her two-sentence, hand-written letter to Governor’s Office Chief of Staff Scott Brinkman says, “I resign effective 9/2/16. Thanks for the opportunity.”

The letter of resignation was obtained by The Courier-Journal through an Open Records Act request to the Kentucky Personnel Cabinet.

Durand did not respond to phone or electronic messages seeking comment on her departure. And Jessica Ditto, director of communications for the Governor’s Office, said the office does not comment on personnel matters.

Durand was the spokeswoman for Bevin’s 2014 campaign challenging U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell for the Republican nomination for the United States Senate. She was among those who joined the Bevin administration from the very start on Dec. 8, 2015. As chief of staff for the first lady’s office, her annual salary was $69,300.
