As the campaigns for Jim Gray and Amy McGrath release internal polling memos and their early first quarter FEC campaign finance reports, the campaign of Reggie Thomas is seeking to avoid the fray and find space in the crowded campaign field for the Democratic nomination in the 6th Congressional District.

Thomas’ campaign says they’re not worried about the poll numbers being released this week by the Gray and McGrath campaigns.

“I’ve heard from voters across the sixth district, and I have a firm network of support,” Thomas said. “I’m not worried about polling. I’m more concerned with how to make life better for Kentuckians.”

The Lexington Democratic state Senator’s campaign manager, Leo Haggerty sought to categorize the early back-and-forth between the Gray and McGrath as a food fight.

“You are now witnessing Jim Gray, and Amy McGrath throw food at one another from opposite ends of the cafeteria like children,” Haggerty said. “That type of immature bickering does not reflect how Kentuckians want their leaders to act. Kentuckians are known worldwide for their hospitality and their friendliness. There’s only one candidate in this race who’s running their campaign that way, and it isn’t Jim Gray or Amy McGrath.”

With less than 7 weeks until the election, Haggerty also addressed the notion that this race is already over.

“We’ve done our fair share of polling, and I can tell you that this race is far more competitive than what you have been led to believe,” Haggerty said.

Thomas’ campaign did not release their polling numbers.

Theodore Green, Daniel Kemph, and Geoff Young have also filed to run for the Democratic nomination on May 22. The Democratic field is seeking to unseat incumbent Republican U.S. Rep Andy Barr, R-Lexington.
