CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. (AP) – Thomas More isn’t a college anymore. Now, it’s a university.

The Kentucky Enquirer reports the school began as a small Catholic secondary education institution in northern Kentucky. It grew into a college in the 1960s and gained university status on Oct. 1.

The school in Crestview Hills began rolling out its new identity last week, though full implementation of the name change will take place during the current academic year.

Thomas More spokeswoman Rebecca Stratton says the new designation allows the school to leverage expanded academic offerings and will create a new organizational structure with three distinct colleges and one new institute: the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business, the College of Education and Health Sciences, and Institute for Ethical Leadership and Interdisciplinary Studies.
